Best Time of Year for a Wedding in Phuket
A month-by-month guide to Phuket's two seasons: weather, sea conditions, sunset light, crowds, and how to choose the right time for your ceremony style.
Choosing the best time for a wedding in Phuket comes down to more than avoiding rain. The two main seasons shape sea conditions, sky colour, beach crowds, venue availability, sunset timing, and the backup options you will need if the weather shifts. Getting it right means matching your ceremony format to the season that suits it.
This guide is drawn from what we see on the ground in Phuket each year. We walk through the dry season and the green season month by month, explain how conditions affect each ceremony format, and help you decide when to book and what to plan for.
Phuket's Two Seasons at a Glance
Phuket has two seasons, not four. Knowing the difference is the foundation of good wedding planning here.
High season (November-April) is the main wedding period. The southwest monsoon has passed, skies are clearer, the Andaman Sea is calmer, and outdoor ceremonies are more reliable. Sunset timing is consistent, beach conditions are better, and yachts and island boats run more predictably. The trade-off is demand: popular dates, sunset slots, and yachts fill faster, and accommodation costs more.
Green season (May-October) is driven by the southwest monsoon, which brings heavier rainfall, rougher seas, and more cloud cover. It does not rain all day. Showers often concentrate in the afternoon or evening, but outdoor ceremonies still need a real backup plan. The upside is genuine: fewer crowds, better availability, and a lush, vivid landscape. For couples with flexibility and a covered backup option, the green season works well.
Month-by-Month Breakdown for Phuket Weddings
Each month in Phuket has its own character. Here is what to expect for outdoor ceremonies, photography, and sea access.

| November | High season starts | Calming seas, clear skies returning, light winds | Beach, sunset, yacht, cliff |
| December | Peak high season | Excellent conditions, calm sea, blue sky, busy beaches | All formats; book well ahead |
| January | Peak high season | Best overall conditions, consistent sunsets, some wind | All formats; book well ahead |
| February | Peak high season | Excellent, slightly lower humidity, golden sunsets | All formats, especially sunset and beach |
| March | High season | Very good, heat building, long golden hour | Beach, sunset, cliff, yacht |
| April | Transition | Hot, some haze, occasional afternoon showers | Morning ceremonies, beach, mini wedding |
| May | Green season starts | Monsoon arrives, heavier rain, rougher seas | Indoor/covered formats; backup required |
| June | Green season | Variable, often dramatic clouds, sea access limited | Cliff, beach with backup plan |
| July | Green season | Mixed: clear mornings, rain afternoons | Morning ceremonies; backup essential |
| August | Green season | Similar to July; lush scenery, quieter beaches | Beach with backup; cliff with shelter option |
| September | Green season | Often the wettest month; heavier and more frequent rain | Indoor or villa formats preferred |
| October | Green season / transition | Rain easing toward end of month, seas still rough | Late October can work; backup still advised |
The Best Months Overall
December through March gives the most reliable conditions for outdoor ceremonies in Phuket. The sea is calm, skies are at their clearest, and sunset light is warm and consistent. January and February stand out: excellent weather, and a slightly calmer pace than the Christmas-New Year peak.
The Shoulder Months: November and April
November suits couples who want high-season conditions without competing with the Christmas and New Year rush. The monsoon has retreated, the sea is calming, and dates are easier to secure than in December or January. April works well for morning ceremonies: the heat is manageable early in the day, and the landscape is vivid before the rains return.
Best Time for a Beach Wedding in Phuket
A beach wedding is the most weather-sensitive format. Every element, from décor and arch to fabric and candles, is exposed to wind, tide, and rain.
The clearest window for a beach wedding is November through March. The Andaman Sea is calm, the sand is dry, and boat access to more secluded beaches is reliable. The tide schedule still shapes ceremony timing, and we always plan around it, but conditions are far more predictable than in the monsoon months.
For a beach wedding in April or the early or late green season, the setup is possible with a covered backup ready: a gazebo, a beachside terrace, or a covered pavilion. If rain arrives, the ceremony moves rather than stops. We build this into the planning from the start.
Best Time for a Sunset Wedding in Phuket
A sunset wedding needs two things at once: clear skies at golden hour and a sunset timed to fit your schedule.
The most consistent window for a Phuket sunset wedding is December through February. The sun sets roughly between 6:00 and 6:30 PM, leaving enough daylight after the ceremony for a short evening element. The light is warm and golden, and cloud interference is rare.
Green-season sunsets can occasionally be spectacular, with dramatic clouds lit from below making striking backdrops. But the same clouds can just as easily produce rain rather than colour. For a sunset ceremony where photography matters, high season is the dependable choice.
Sunset timing shifts across the year: around 6:00 PM in November and early December, and closer to 6:30-6:45 PM in March and April. We schedule ceremony timing around the actual sunset for your date.
Best Time for a Yacht Wedding in Phuket
A yacht wedding is the format most directly shaped by sea conditions, so season choice carries more weight here than for any land-based ceremony.
Yacht and catamaran ceremonies operate most reliably from November through April. The Andaman Sea is calm during this period, island routes are open, and the onboard ceremony - décor, floral arrangements, photography - runs without concern about swell or rough water.
From May through October, yacht operations are limited by sea conditions, particularly on the more exposed island routes. Some departures are possible during calmer spells, but the itinerary is shorter and the route more restricted. If a yacht ceremony is a firm goal, high season gives you the widest choice of routes and the most reliable conditions.
Planning a Green Season Wedding: What to Know
A rainy-season wedding is not a bad idea. It is a different kind of planning, with real advantages and genuine trade-offs.
Beaches are quieter, dates and packages are easier to secure, and the landscape is lush and vivid. For couples who are flexible on timing and honest with themselves about weather, the green season produces intimate and visually striking ceremonies.
The one thing you cannot skip is a proper backup plan. Before the date, identify a covered or indoor option: a clifftop terrace with shelter, a villa, a hotel venue, or a covered beach pavilion. We build the backup into the plan from the start, so if rain arrives the ceremony shifts rather than stops. Cliff locations, in particular, often stay drier than beach level even mid-shower.
Yacht and island boat access is genuinely limited in the green season. Décor elements that depend on open-air stability, such as long fabric drapes, tall arch structures, and candles, are harder to manage in wind and rain. Photography in flat or overcast light is workable, but it reads differently from the warm gold of high season.
Availability, Pricing, and When to Book
Season shapes not just weather but also how far ahead you need to confirm your date.
December 20 - January 10 is the most competitive window in Phuket. Accommodation, venues, and wedding teams are all in high demand. Book 4-6 months ahead for a ceremony in this period. Sunset slots and yacht charters fill earliest.
November, February, and March are still high season, but with more breathing room. For most ceremony formats, including beach and sunset packages, 2-4 months of lead time is enough.
April and the October-November transition are shoulder-season months. Most bookings can be arranged with 1-2 months of lead time.
May-September is the most open period. Packages can often be confirmed quickly, and both date and location flexibility are at their highest. The compromise is weather uncertainty and limited sea access.
Tropica Wedding packages start from 23,000 THB for a wedding photoshoot with arch, 31,000 THB for a beach wedding, 36,000 THB for a sunset wedding, and 95,000 THB for a yacht ceremony. Pricing does not vary by season, but venue and add-on availability does.
Which Month Is Right for You?
For reliable outdoor conditions and strong photography light, December through February is the clearest call. Book your date and sunset slot 3-5 months ahead.
November or March offer an excellent balance: high-season weather without the peak-week pressure or the scramble for dates.
For dates fixed in the green season, choose a ceremony format with a genuine indoor or covered backup, lean toward morning timing when rain is less likely, and avoid formats that depend on open sea access.
If you are flexible on both dates and format, share your preferred window with us and we can advise on location, timing, and package based on what we see in that period each year.
